WSJ: Anti-War Films Bomb
An editorial in national business newspaper the Wall Street Journal notes that the spat of Iraq and Afghanistan war films “has many movie-goers taking a pass.” Citing poorly received anti-war films like Redacted, Rendition and Lions for Lambs, WSJ observes that “it’s always a difficult venture to turn tragedy into entertainment. War movies succeed when they capture the complex reality on the battlefield, as well as the sacrifice and heroism that emerge.” These films emphasize the former and none of the latter. Audiences will probably be more receptive in years a war ends, when anti-war issues aren’t so unnervingly close to home, WSJ adds.
