UK Observer: Iraq Films Flop With War Pro & Con Audiences
The dismal U.S. box office for Iraq and Afghanstan-themed war films extends to audiences both supporting and opposing U.S. involvement in the real life conflicts, notes UK newspaper the Observer. The British newspaper, which has a liberal orientation, noted that both camps stayed away from Rendition, Redacted, In the Valley of Elah and The Kingdom (see “H’wood Miscalculates With Politico Films” Oct. 26, 2007 in the News/Features directory). “Maybe Hollywood will learn again that audiences want to be entertained, and they will go elsewhere for lectures,” Fox News anchor John Gibson says in the Observer story.
