'Twilight' Heat Online

By Robert Marich
Nov. 14, 2011-The next installment of the Twilight film series is sizzling with online ticketing service Fandango saying early ticket sales are red hot, Yahoo is mounting a promotion and even an computer anti-virus outfit is stoking a promotional fire. Summit Entertainment will release The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1 on Friday; the film is rated PG-13.
Fandango said today that 2,500 Twilight showtimes are already sold out and the audience led by heart-throbbing teen girls is generating 93% of all its ticket sales. Forty-seven percent of the audience plans to see the movie as part of a group of friends.
As an added bonus to fans, Fandango is hosting a Twitter party (a virtual party using the Twitter platform) live from the red carpet world premiere of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1,” adds the Fandango press release. “From 5:30-6:30 p.m. PT tonight, fans can join in the Twilight discussion, see exclusive photos of the cast from the premiere and win prizes like $500 in Fandango Bucks. To join the party, follow @Fandango #FandangoTwilight.”
Meanwhile, Yahoo placed a Twilight countdown clock on its homepage. “Promotional activities for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 will also extend across Yahoo! Music, omg! from Yahoo! (29 million monthly U.S. visitors*) and Yahoo! Mail (94 million monthly U.S. visitors*), directing fans to this digital destination for all Twilight Saga-related content,” says a Yahoo press release. There’s also a “Say ‘I Do’” sweepstake. Yahoo executive VP Ross Levinsohn is quoted saying the website portal has unique movie content.
While those are official tie-ins, Norton anti-virus horns in on the action with a press release urging Twilight web surfers be cautious because unauthorized malicious content is being posted. “Common searches that are turning up poisoned results tend to be for photos, trailers, clips, casting information and plot details on the series,” says the Norton press release.
