Soccer Docu Preps Cinema Release
Oct. 5, 2011-Theatrical distribution continues to be achieved by small films. Documentary Rise and Shine: The Jay Demerit Story is poised for a theatrical release Nov. 3 on in at least 125 domestic theaters via D&E Entertainment, which is based in Hollywood.
The 92-minute documentary follows the struggle of an unheralded Greenbay, Wisc. lad who pursues a dream of playing big time soccer in the UK.
Rise and Shine: The Jay Demerit Story is a passion project of filmmakers Ranko Tutulugdzija and Nick Lewis of Truth2Life Productions, and the film’s website includes a seven page digital download with ideas for supporters to lend a hand in marketing. It’s a nifty call to action reminding the film has a website, Twitter feeds and Facebook page. The download includes text and color pictures.
A press release says that the film was financed “through the grassroots crowd-sourcing organization Kickstarter (www.kickstarter.com). Kickstarter is an online fundraiser for musicians, artists, filmmakers and others to fund projects via donations and participation from the public. Rise and Shine exceeded a $215,000 goal by almost $10,000 as the top Kickstarter campaign ever for an indie film.”
