Quick $ Gains For Foreign Oscar Films
Dec. 7, 2007 -- Because non-U.S. films are generating more business, simply being one of 63 films submitted for Best Foreign Film Oscar is a ticket to more revenue, according to Variety. Film distributors around the world feel obligated to at least look at submitted films for possible purchase in their countries. A film organization in each country designates one film to be its national entry (five from this pool are selected as nominees). Since the foreign film Oscar was introduced in 1956, more than a third of the 51 winners have been Italian or French films.
