New 'Hulk' Faces Mixed Buzz
April 10, 2008 -- A new The Incredible Hulk film, headed for June 13 theatrical premiere, is fighting bad buzz, as it tries to launch a series in the Spider-Man vein. A 2003 incarnation of Hulk did not achieve blockbuster status. A New York Times article notes, “The trailer, engineered to vanquish memories of the 2003 film, arrived last month and instantly polarized the comic book crowd. The look of the new Hulk — meaner and greener — won praise from some fans online, but several influential tastemakers held their noses.”
The article by Brooks Barnes also says, “Entertainment Weekly pronounced the computer-generated effects ‘totally fake-looking,’ while obsessedwithfilm.com deemed the project ‘just hideous.’”
Distributor Universal Pictures disagrees, saying the Hulk trailer is heavily watched on line and getting good reaction.
