Movie Soundtrack Mini Bounce?
Aug. 8, 2011—Music soundtracks used to be one of the top categories in movie licensing in the 1990s, but have fallen in recent years as the music industry tumbled. So it’s interesting movie soundtracks for Focus Features’ romantic One Day and Lionsgate’s Hunger Games get the fanfare of national press releases a few days apart.
Universal Music Enterprises releases soundtrack One Day on Aug. 16 and three days later the movie comes out. “The soundtrack One Day features a brand new track written and composed exclusively for the movie by Elvis Costello; titled “Sparkling Day,” the song is only available on this soundtrack,” says the press release.
Hunger Games – a futuristic survival drama -- is a March 23, 2012 theatrical premiere but the PR on the sound track doesn’t offer many specifics, but Lions Gate is clearly pushing the promotion button.
“The music industry, a willing but battered partner, has been reeling from steadily declining revenue due to changes in the delivery of music in recent years,” says Marketing to Moviegoers: Second Edition.
