'Jurassic World' Contest Seeks Moviegoer Content

   Jan. 6, 2018-Universal Pictures mounts a contest for user-generated content for its Jurassic World/Jurassic Park movie franchise and a studio press release gives a glimpse of what’s behind this marketing initiative. Universal hired crowd-sourced content producer Tongal, which was founded in 2009 in Santa Monica CA, to sort through entries from the general public.
   Moviegoers are asked to create videos recreating or reliving their favorite moments from the dinosaur movie series, for which
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is scheduled for theatrical premiere domestically June 22, 2018. The user-generated content can involve homemade animation, illustration, toys, family members, costumes, pets and special effects. Submissions can be made until Jan. 22.
   “After a curation of the best and most original fan-generated content submissions, the compilation videos will be posted to the Jurassic World YouTube, Facebook and Instagram channels, as well as JurassicWorld.com every #ThrowbackThursday from January through April.
   This is a contest with prizes. “Up to 48 winners will be awarded $250 each—as well as Jurassic Park S.W.A.G.—and their videos will be shared with fans across Jurassic World social channels,” says a studio press release. “Two grand-prize winners will be selected (one for each project) to receive $1,000, plus Jurassic Park products and DVD set.”
   It’s about fan engagement: “With this call to action, we're bringing together fans of all ages to showcase their creativity and celebrate all things Jurassic,” David O'Connor, executive vice president and head of franchise management and brand strategy-Universal Brand Development, says in a studio press release. It also provides an outlet for authorized use by the public of the intellectual property.
    Besides being tied to the next Jurassic World movie release—which will be number five from the franchise—Universal Brand Development is mounting a 25th anniversary marketing campaign. The first film dates back a quarter century to 1993.
