DVDs bundle cinema discount coupons

By Robert Marich
March 10, 2009 – Coupons for cinema ticket discounts are being bundled in high-end DVDs by movie distributors that want to jump-start lagging DVD software sales and to help keep movie-going high.
Yesterday, it was announced the Blu-ray DVD release of Da Vinci Code: Extended Cut would contain a $10 movie ticket coupon and three weeks earlier a similar discount coupon was included in the Watchmen: Motion Comic DVD.
A press release from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment yesterday says, “Da Vinci Code: Extended Cut will include access to $10 in movie cash toward Angels & Demons theatrical tickets and a Web-enabled feature dubbed ‘Cinechat,’ in which fans can chat to their friends while watching the movie together on broadband-connected Blu-ray players.”  The Da Vinci DVD also contains a five minute video of Angels & Demons to promote the theatrical release.
Warner Home Video provided the $7.50 cash coupon to the Watchmen theatrical in connection with purchase of the property’s non-theatrical motion comic DVD.
DVD movie sales peaked a few years and the Christmas season was sharply down for film distributors. However, cinema box office remains strong.
