Disney's pricey diamond, wedding merchandise

By Robert Marich
Oct. 27, 2009 – Walt Disney rolls out some of the most expensive movie licensed merchandise—diamond rings and wedding dresses for women who want a real life princess experience.
Diamond rings – named for animated movie characters Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel, and Belle – run $4,210 to $6,780 each. Wedding dresses go up to $4,000 and are created by designer Kirstie Kelley, according to a New York Post article by Jennifer Gould Keil.
Marketing to Moviegoers: Second Edition notes high end movie merchandise – which is a far cry from key chains and coffee mugs – is unusual but occasionally created, in part to generate publicity. For example, years ago the third Rambo movie had a $2,250 special edition hunting knife.
