Denzel Tops Star Popularity List

By Robert Marich
Jan. 25, 2013—The Harris Interactive consumer poll finds Denzel Washington as Hollywood’s most popular star among adults in the United States in late 2012, up one notch and bumping the prior year's winner Johnny Depp—who now ranks fourth.
Harris surveyed 2,141 adults (aged 18 and over) in December for the research findings on popularity of stars. A table grid of movie stardom rankings is below, and underneath it is a link to the Harris press release that includes more rankings, including female star ranks. Meryl Streep is the only female among the top 10.
Says the Harris Interactive press release, “Age, region, gender and political party and leanings can often mean different favorite movie stars. Men cite Clint Eastwood as their favorite while women say it is Denzel Washington. Echo Boomers (those aged 18-35) and Baby Boomers (aged 48-66) agree on Denzel Washington as their favorite actor, while for Gen Xers (aged 36-47) the #1 spot is a tie between Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp. John Wayne is the favorite among Matures (those aged 67 and older).”
