De Niro memorabilia valued at $5 mil.

By Robert Marich
Apr 30, 2009 – Robert De Niro donated 1,300 boxes of personal memorabilia from his career to the University of Texas, including his faux cab driver license (see image below) from Taxi Driver. The memorabilia is valued at $5 million, according to a New York Times story. Presumably, this means the Oscar-winning actor gets a tidy tax break for providing the gift to the Harry Ransom Center at the university.
The article by Dave Itzkoff says that the artifacts “cover Mr. De Niro’s career from the 1968 Brian De Palma feature Greetings through 2005’s Hide and Seek, and includes everything from the leopard-print boxing robe the actor wore in Raging Bull to the coats he donned as the Creature in Frankenstein.”
The valuation is another indication of enthusiasm that the public has for movies and celebrity, and also indicates high-end movie talent possesses treasure troves if they hang on to props and other items during their careers.
