Audi Car Replaces Acura In Next 'Iron Man'

March 10, 2013- An electric-powered Audi luxury car brand replaces Honda’s Acura in Walt Disney’s Iron Man 3, according to Bloomberg news service. Audi, which is aggressive about product placement in movies, is owned by German automotive giant Volkswagen.
The Tony Stark character, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man films, “will park the Acura supercar he drove last year in favor of a battery-powered Audio NSU when his latest motion picture opens May 3,” says the Bloomberg story by Alan Ohnsman. “A trailer for Iron Man 3 features the Audi R8 e-tron sports car, not the Acura NSX prototype (that appears) in the 2012 hit film The Avengers.”
Walt Disney Pictures will premiere IM3 in theaters May 3 and is also home for The Avengers. Disney bought Iron Man comics’ parent Marvel for $4.3 billion in 2009.
“With separate deals for Disney’s Marvel films, the carmakers are jockeying to promote their most souped-up models to young film fans,” says the Bloomberg story. “Volkswagen’s Audi dominates the Iron Man films. Honda Motor’s Acura provided the hot cars in Captain America, Thor and The Avengers, which became the No. 3 top-grossing film worldwide of all time.”
